As the Association Executive for a large stakeholders group in the community – the South Tahoe Association of REALTORS – I had the opportunity to interact with Nancy Kerry as the City’s Manager often on many issues throughout her 10 year tenure. I found Nancy to be incredibly bright, knowledgeable and skilled as she navigated complex and challenging topics, as well as strong personalities on her Council and in the community. She was very deft at managing public meetings and maintaining calm and focus whenever audience members became heated and emotional. She is also well known for her work on the City’s budget pertaining to CalPERS, and reducing the liability for local tax payers.
In 2008 America was hit with one of the worst recessions since The Great Depression. The City of South Lake Tahoe was hit especially hard. While much of the rest of the country recovered, South Lake Tahoe did not. I met Nancy in 2014. She approached us and shared a vision for South Lake Tahoe, a town where people could thrive. After organizing a group of leaders in town, we worked on visioning and planning the future of South Lake Tahoe.
It’s now 2018 and South Lake Tahoe looks nothing like it did even 5 years ago. Nancy’s leadership changed this town for the better. Her oversight on large projects and driving of private-public partnerships triggered a renaissance that I haven’t seen in a town since Mountain View, CA in the 90’s.
Her stewardship of the town instilled enough confidence for our company to move forward with our own significant investment. All while this was happening, Nancy was busy managing the city budget with a high level of fiscal responsibility. She was one of the first to realize the threat CalPERS posed to cities and municipalities all over California. She worked diligently and innovatively to ensure the city stayed solvent in the years to come.
I can’t really say enough good things about Nancy Kerry. Working with her was a pleasure. She leads with positivity and she gets things done. She comes with my highest recommendation.
